Winnebago County improves customer experience with new statewide DMV scheduling system
posted by Treasurer
We’re introducing a new statewide scheduling and check-in system for DMV services!
Winnebago County joins the Iowa Department of Transportation in launching a new online appointment system to improve DMV services across Iowa.
Why? To save time (yours!) and create a more consistent experience across county service locations.
What does it mean for you? Beginning January 20, 2026, customers will be able to:
- Schedule appointments for any DMV service at any service center or county treasurer office in nearly 80 participating counties.
- See which locations have availability for the service you need, when you need it.
- Receive appointment reminders and have the ability to reschedule or cancel online.
- Check in by mobile device or kiosk.

FAQs
Q: Can I still walk in without an appointment?
A: Statewide, most offices will accept walk-ins, but scheduling ahead ensures the shortest wait and a guaranteed time.
Q: What if I’m late? What if I miss my appointment? How will I know if my appointment is cancelled?
A: Appointment Notification Policy
- If you miss or cancel your appointment, you will automatically receive a notification to your preferred contact method (cell phone and/or email).
- Each notification will include the status of your appointment (missed, canceled)
- If your appointment no longer fits within your schedule, simple reschedule your appointment through the website or call our office at 641-585-4430.
Q: What types of services can I schedule?
A: Driver and ID Services, Motor Vehicles Services, Dealer Services, and Property Tax Services. (There may be locations that do not require appointments and certain services will need to be completed as a walk-in.)
Q: What if I don’t have internet or a smartphone?
A: Customers can still schedule an appointment in person via the clerk/ kiosk or by calling a county office. Once you arrive at the office a clerk can help get you checked in for your appointment.
Q: Will it cost me to schedule an appointment?
A: NO. The system is part of a statewide technology modernization investment and does not increase fees for customers.
