D-09-N1 Bridge Replacement

posted on 5/9/24
posted by Road Department

Winnebago County Road crews will be replacing a bridge with a 72 inch aluminized corrugated metal pipe. The project is located on 500th Street 1.5 miles east of Rake over Drainage District No. 64 Main Ditch. The road will be closed during construction with no marked detour and is expected to begin in July and take 1-2 weeks to complete.

This bridge was originally built in 1917, an 18 foot wide concrete skew slab bridge with concrete abutments. In 1972, the road was regraded and County road crews remodeled and widened the bridge from 18 to 24 feet wide using new wood and steel materials for the beams, decking, and railings. The original concrete abutments was reused and additional wood piling was added to support the widened portion of the bridge.

The bridge is currently posted and limited to 24 tons gross weight.

Questions can be directed to the County Engineer's Office at 641-585-2905.
