Winnebago County Environmental Health/Sanitarian Specialist
Part-time position. Paid Hourly
Reports to the Winnebago County Board of Health
Responsibilities:
The Environmental Health Specialist/Sanitarian performs professional level inspections and provides technical assistance in a variety of programs, which protect the health of the public. These programs include, but not limited to inspection of public pools, evaluation of property for installation of on-site septic systems, private water well permitting, tattoo facility inspection, water sample collection, well closures, and other related work as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Education or work-related background in environmental health, biology, chemistry, and/or soil science is recommended but not required.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Obtain and keep current on the necessary licensure and certificates to perform the necessary responsibilities.
- Must be able to operate a Windows based computer along with Microsoft Office and other software.
- Must possess and maintain an active Iowa Driver’s License.
Knowledge of & Ability to
- State and Local environmental laws, rules, and regulations and their application to environmental programs
- HIPPA rules and regulations
- Principles and practices of emergency preparedness
- Investigation, analysis, and procedures used in sampling and related data collection
- Basic techniques involved with environmental control and application of those techniques to specific environmental problems
- Geology, soils, and watersheds as related to the protection of natural resources
